Did you know you can "vacuum seal" a plastic freezer bag without any special equipment?
How to:
Fill a large bowl (make sure it's larger than the freezer bag & its contents) with water. Slowly lower the open bag (with the contents inside) into the bowl until the water level is just below the zipper. Be careful not to let any water seep into the bag! Seal the bag and take it out of the bowl.
Why it works:
The pressure of the water pushes the air out of the bag, creating an airtight seal around the food that helps prevent ice buildup.
If so, don't worry. It's a doppelganger to this one. Two different baby showers require two cakes - nothing says you have to have two different cake designs. When you have something that works, stick with it, right?
"Ladies don't start fights, but they can finish them!" Guess that movie!
If you said, "The Aristocats", you are correct! This cake was inspired by the movie, particularly by Marie. The client had figurines of the characters to place on top.
2 birthdays for 2 brothers to celebrate on the same day. Solution? 1 cake that's basically 2 cakes, so they each get one of their own. (Luckily, they both wanted the same theme this year. That will change soon I anticipate!)
My favorite part of this cake is probably the flame on the TNT block.
The biggest challenge on this cake was getting the edible sand to adhere to the sand castle topper and still look realistic. In this case it kept darkening down too much. But I fiddled with it enough that it finally turned out fairly well.
And, since it was the 1st birthday, there was a smash cake to match.
I may have said this before, but I'm going to say it again - I really, really dislike making character cakes. This transforming guy was no different. But the birthday boy was excited and enjoyed it!
I may have said this before, and if so, I'm just going to say it again...I LOVE the textured buttercreams that are popular on wedding cakes right now! Paired with statement blooms they are simple, yet elegant and can fit nearly any wedding theme.
One of our run group friends recently departed for new pastures. We were sad to see her go, but celebrated her opportunity by raising a glass and wishing her well.
Getting near the end of this year's graduation cakes! And, that means also near the end of the May goodies...I'm gaining ground!
I loved the fact that so many of the grad cakes this year were fairly elegant, simple, somewhat understated. This one was a favorite - bold black and white with the pops of orange - gorgeous.
