Her party was book themed with all the food, drinks, and, of course, cakes being book inspired. Yes, I said cakes; four to be exact.
(I apologize in advance for the lighting on these first few photos. It was a cold, dreary(ish) day in Oklahoma, but we partied anyway!)
Cake #1: Olivia the Pig inspired. The topper was created by her artist mom, Pax. (Yes, the same Pax who created this blog's logo and header image.)
Cake #2: Dr. Suess inspired. Complete with a giant candle and cherries on top!
Cake #3: Give a Mouse a Cookie inspired. Homemade chocolate chip cookies, a bottle of milk, and a perfectly matched gift tag.
Cake #4: the smash cake! Quite possibly the most important one of all. It was mean to look like a giant chocolate chip cookie to tie with the cookie mouse cake, but it had a bit of a Where the Wild Things Are vibe with the crown topper.
It was covered in fine chocolate chip cookie crumbs. I can report, the birthday girl was a fan once she took a few bites and discovered Mom wouldn't be taking it from her.
One of my nephews also celebrated a birthday in December, though a few weeks earlier. His cake was book themed too!
It wasn't all family celebrations in December though. There were, of course, plenty of Christmas cookies.
This super fun 3rd birthday cake and matching cookies.
And a cake for a retirement celebration.
Curious about this one's design? I always ask what people's hobbies are, etc for retirement cakes. I usually get a list of several things, but for this one all I got was "he likes to mow yards." So, a yard mowing cake design was conceived.
Talk to you soon!
