Meyer Lemon Juice Substitute

There's a difference between regular lemons and Meyer lemons; Meyers are slightly sweeter than their regular counterparts.  So, if you have a recipe that calls for Meyer lemon juice and you can't find Meyer lemons, what are you to do?  Simple:  just substitute equal parts regular lemon juice and orange juice.

Mmm...tasty!

  2. I have a recipe for a Lemon Tart. It calls for a whole Meyer lemon. What do I do?

    1. If it calls for the zest and juice of whole Meyer lemon, you can use the zest from a regular lemon and then substitute equal parts lemon juice and orange juice for the Meyer lemon juice. (1 lemon will usually yield about 3 tablespoons of juice.) Hope that helps and good luck with your tart!

  3. If I'm using orange juice from the supermarket instead of freshly-squeezed orange juice, is the ratio still the same?

    1. You'll still use the same ratio, just keep in mind that fresh-squeezed orange juice will impart a much brighter, more citrus flavor vs the store bought juice.
